"AND WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES... "

TORONTO'S ALVVAYS TAKE US FOR A MEMORABLY DARK RIDE THROUGH THE CLOUDS

Yet another pop song that feels like a fine fit for the atmosphere aimed at in Neverland in Shadow. This is Ones Who Love You by the super Toronto-based band Alvvays.

The brooding mood of the track is created by Molly Rankin's plaintive vocal delivery, ominous and unusual words, plus a highly textured musical bed. Lyrics, of riding a bike through a lightning storm before soaring across the cosmos, are bewitching and arresting:

And when lightning strikes

I'll be on my bike

I won't be stuck inside

I will be taking flight

And when the wheels come off

I'll be an astronaut

I will be lost in space

I will be skipping rocks

Nothing ever falls in place...

Ones Who Love You is the third track on the group's eponymous debut LP, released way back in 2014 on Royal Mountain Records in Canada, Polyvinyl Records in the States and on Transgressive Records across Europe.

The follow-up album, Antosocialites, appeared in 2017 and the latest, Blue Rev, popped up in 2022.
